My 6 Favorite Lipsticks

I’ve become a pretty big lipstick fan over the years and have amassed quite the collection. I’m constantly trying out new ones, and don’t think I’ve passed by a duty free store in the last five years without picking up a new shade. After quite a bit of trial and error I’ve narrowed down my top 6 absolute favorite colors; the colors that I’ve loved for years and/or wear every single day. Without further ado, my top 6 favorite lip colors, below:

(okay a little bit of further ado – after taking this photo and seeing it up close I realized that it’s not the most gorgeous photo and that you can see lip marks and little nicks and scratches on the tubes, but that just goes to show that I use these a lot and really do love them, right?)

Chanel Rouge Coco in ‘Gabrielle’ – This to me is the perfect red. It’s not a crazy bright, fire engine red but rather a softer more elegant shade, which is really easy to wear. A makeup artist from Chanel told me that she’s convinced it’s a universal shade that looks good on every single person she’s ever put it on and I’d have to agree.

Bobbi Brown ‘Pink’ – This bright, deep pink has been my go-to for a few years now. I even wore it at my wedding! I like to apply a coat or two of it and then blot it so that it’s a bit more muted. The formula of this lipstick is nice and hydrating but still semi-matte (I don’t like really shiny or sparkly lipsticks and never wear gloss) and stays on for a long time.

Lancome Rouge in Love ‘163M Dans ses Bras’ – Alright unfortunately this shade is bizarrely difficult to find, but if you do then please try it because it’s the prettiest ultra pigmented raspberry color. I like to wear it during the day to feel instantly pulled together.

Charlotte Tilbury ‘Amazing Grace’ – Charlotte describes this color as a ‘vintage tea rose’ and I think that does sum it up pretty perfectly. It’s a really gorgeous dusty rose that goes on super matte and looks very natural – like your own lip color but better. This is a really neat feature where you can see how the lip color looks on various skin tones.

Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Color in ‘Pink Lily’ – This is an ultra pigmented, medium to bright raspberry pink color that’s very pretty for day or night.

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in ‘L’Exubérante’ – I fell in love with this color when I saw it at Violet Grey a couple of months ago, but they only had the color as a display piece and didn’t even know what the name of it was. They ended up just giving it to me which was so sweet (I think they maybe didn’t want to make the pregnant lady upset ;)) and I finally tracked down its name.

on my radar…

A (very) random assortment of things I’m currently loving, from a Matisse inspired painter to a very delicious sparking soda…

1. I’m a little bit obsessed with this fabric from British textile designer Penny Morrison, and really want to make a large bolster pillow for my bed with it. A few Etsy shops sell pillows using her fabrics if you end up loving her designs as much as I do!

2. The Go Between. I just ordered this book and am really looking forward to reading it. I can’t remember where I saw it recommended but it sounds like such an interesting story – I’ll report back.

3. Hudson Grace makes the most gorgeous, well, everything, but these oversized linen napkins are particularly great. I have them in pink.

4. Ahh this shoe. I wore a similar heeled version as my wedding shoe but I just love this flat since it’s a tiny bit more practical (although very expensive for a shoe). I’d pair it with distressed denim to tone down the fancy a little bit.

5. Veronica Beard has been on a roll lately. I have a few pairs of their pants and have tried on their shirts and dresses in shop, and am happy to report that their tailoring and craftsmanship is on point. I really love this dress and think it’d be such a cute Spring wardrobe addition – I’m just hoping it’ll go on sale!

6. I’ve tried every flavor of Spindrift and think that the Blackberry is the best one. If you’re not familiar, they’re similar to La Croix but contain actual bits of fruit which make them taste a thousand times better, while still being super refreshing and low in calories. You can search on their site to see if they’re available in the grocery stores near you.

7. Wayne Pate is a New York based artist and seems to be all the rage right now. I first read about him a few years ago in a magazine, and was re-reminded of him when a client bought one of his pieces a few months ago. His work is so interesting and ranges from abstract black and white drawings to whimsical, colorful paintings. You can buy his prints on One Kings Lane and on his site.

8. My friend Kirsty is the designer behind Retrouvai, the most gorgeous LA based jewelry line. Her brand motto is to create modern heirlooms which is such a neat sentiment and one that her current line captures perfectly. I’d definitely keep this ring to pass on to my daughter one day.

summer essentials

A few things I’ve been loving lately…

A little striped dress, perfect for hot summer days. A pretty neutral polish for when you’re tired of wearing bright pinks and corals. More stripes, in the form of a fun clutch (think it’d be too much to wear it with the dress?) and the prettiest pale blue bikini. I just ordered this swimsuit and am hoping it fits nicely – don’t you just hate when the bottoms dig in to your sides rather than just lay nicely? The worst. I really think that Hanky Panky should start making swimsuits in the style of their undies that lay so nicely.

I think this looks like the ideal sunhat, don’t you? I love the color of it and the contrast band is a nice touch. This face spray is one of my favorites, especially after a day at the beach when you need a little refreshment and moisture. These pretty denim wedges are majorly marked down right now and would end up being such a perfect summer shoe year after year.

How gorgeous is this vintage suzani from Furbish? It would look great as a bedcover or a decorative wall hanging. Oh and it’d be an amazing beach blanket but it’s pretty expensive so you probably wouldn’t want to do that to it! Something that can go to the beach though, is this chic bamboo and cabana striped chair.

Have a happy Wednesday!
