A little striped dress, perfect for hot summer days. A pretty neutral polish for when you’re tired of wearing bright pinks and corals. More stripes, in the form of a fun clutch (think it’d be too much to wear it with the dress?) and the prettiest pale blue bikini. I just ordered this swimsuit and am hoping it fits nicely – don’t you just hate when the bottoms dig in to your sides rather than just lay nicely? The worst. I really think that Hanky Panky should start making swimsuits in the style of their undies that lay so nicely.
I think this looks like the ideal sunhat, don’t you? I love the color of it and the contrast band is a nice touch. This face spray is one of my favorites, especially after a day at the beach when you need a little refreshment and moisture. These pretty denim wedges are majorly marked down right now and would end up being such a perfect summer shoe year after year.
How gorgeous is this vintage suzani from Furbish? It would look great as a bedcover or a decorative wall hanging. Oh and it’d be an amazing beach blanket but it’s pretty expensive so you probably wouldn’t want to do that to it! Something that can go to the beach though, is this chic bamboo and cabana striped chair.
a rose in our garden the other day after it rained. pretty color, hey?
TGIF. Last night my sister and I went to see Marie Kondo speak, and I’m now very inspired to spend the weekend ‘sparking joy’ aka throwing stuff out. It’s perfect timing actually, since we’re moving at the end of the month to that house in Manhattan Beach that I was talking about here. Woo hoo! I’m pretty excited, although packing and moving aren’t the most fun. Oh well. Do you have any fun plans for the next couple of days? Maybe make my Niçoise salad for lunch or dinner? Whatever you get up to, have fun!
-A Beverly Hills and Culver City guide, from Goop. I am in Beverly Hills quite a bit for work but rarely go to Culver City, so I’m looking forward to checking out a few of the places on this list. I bet my mom is going to bookmark this for her next visit, right mom?
Happy Monday, you guys. Did you have a fun weekend? We ended up actually seeing quite a few friends over the last couple of days which was nice, and for those of you that asked, Penny is doing great after her spay on Friday. I think she’s a little confused about wearing the cone (I snapped a few funny pictures, follow along at w.cosgrave if you’d like) but other than that she’s great.
Today I’m starting a semi-regular new series on the blog, where I’m going to share what beauty products I’m loving at the moment. I really enjoy reading about and discovering what items other people are using and I figured you might as well. Without further ado, my thoughts on the five products above. Let me know if you have any questions about any of them!
Tom Ford Illuminating Primer – My sister and I both bought this at Violet Grey a couple of weeks ago, and I’m really loving it so far. I had been looking for a highlighter type product that was glow-y rather than sparkly, and this one fits the bill. It gives the skin a subtle, dewy effect and helps to even out the skintone. I’ve been wearing this during the day and on weekends when I want to give my skin a break from my tinted moisturizer but still want a bit of coverage.
Caudalie Beauty Elixir – I’ve been a long time devotee of all things Caudalie, and this is my favorite product of theirs. I like to keep one in my purse to give myself a little spritz when I’ve been out and about all day and need a little pick me up; the product not only smells great and has a cooling sensation, but it helps to tighten pores and set makeup as well.
Le Weekend de Chanel – I bought this after reading and hearing multiple rave reviews, and so far I’m very happy with it. You use it on the weekend (morning and night) in place of your other usual products, and it helps to exfoliate and intensely moisturize the skin to set the tone for the week ahead. I thought that a product for the weekend was going to just be a silly gimmick to get people to buy more things, but for me it really works. I highly recommend!
Shani Darden Retinol Reform – By now everyone’s heard about the multiple benefits of using a retinol on your skin to help combat wrinkles and signs of aging, and I think that Shani Darden’s product is the best. I have really sensitive skin so I only use it once or twice a week, but it’s a gentle enough formula that some people work up to using it nightly. Truthfully I first bought it because I read that Rosie Huntington Whitely used it and that girl has amazing skin, but I became hooked pretty quickly and have been using it for over a year. As a bonus Shani is very nice and even let me text her photos and ask for advice when I was having a particularly bad breakout, and I’m not even a facial client of hers. Big fan!
Sachajuan Ocean Mist – Just a couple of spritzes helps to muss up hair a little and add texture for perfectly imperfect beach hair. It also smells delicious.
The other day I bought a barrette for the first time in probably fifteen years. I tend to shy away from any sort of hair accessory as I think that they can tend to look a little too ‘done’ for my liking; my mom followed me around for a good half hour while when I was getting ready for my wedding, trying to pin just a little something beaded or sparkly into my hair and I just didn’t like the look of it (sorry, mom!). But these new clean lined, modern looking barrettes used to clip up a messy chignon or hold together a low pony, these I can get behind.
Hair accessories and barrettes started to make a comeback about a year ago on the runways at Chanel and Celine, and since then I’ve started noticing images popping up on my Pinterest page and have started seeing them in the shops. Nordstrom makes a rounded clip that’s just about an exact copy of the Celine one, as does Asos, and J.Crew has a pretty good selection of clips. I think the key to pulling off any sort of hair accessory is to keep the rest of your look quite basic, and to be sure that your hair doesn’t look too perfect, like the girls in these inspiration images. Thoughts? Have you been wearing barrettes at all, or is this not something you can see yourself doing?
Happy Friday! It’s drizzling and grey outside here today, and I’m pretty excited about it. I have a bunch of work to get done at the computer and I’m planning to just stay in my pajamas for as long as possible. Working from home (mostly) can be pretty fun. Are you doing anything exciting this weekend? We have a friend’s 30th birthday tomorrow which I’m looking forward to, and other than that it’s kind of all Justin and I have going on.
–A chat with the founders of The Skimm on what they did know and things they wish they had known when starting their business. You get The Skimm, right? Reading it is the first thing I do each morning (while snuggling with Penny).
