I did a poll on instagram stories the other day when I tried this sweater dress on about whether it was cute or too much like a housecoat, but then I realized that if I can get away with wearing something super comfy and robe-like out of the house while still looking relatively put together, that’s a win. So I got it, and I’m so glad I did. There’s something that’s just so great about a sweater dress – it’s nice to have something other than jeans and a sweater to wear every once in a while, and they work particularly well in LA where you can usually get away with wearing them with just bare legs and booties or flats. If I lived somewhere cooler or if the weather ever calms down (it’s supposed to be 90 degrees today if you can believe it) I’d style this with some tights (my favorites are these from Spanx), high heeled over the knee boots, and a longish wool coat in grey or black.
Another sweater dress that I love is this Joie dress (I’m wearing it here in this blog post from a few years ago), which they seem to bring back in different color ways each season. I’d wait until it goes on sale though if you’re interested in buying it -for example here it is in beige majorly marked down, though only size large is available. I was pregnant last fall so I didn’t get a chance to wear mine (I actually have it in both beige and navy) so I’m looking forward to bringing them out again this year.
Isn’t it funny how excited we all seem to get about all things fall (particularly clothes)? It makes me think of the quote from The Great Gatsby “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall”. There’s just something about the change of weather and scenery that makes autumn feel so fresh and new and promising.
Did you have a good weekend? Mine was really nice and sort of busy which was fun. On Friday we went for dinner and drinks with some friends who were visiting from out of town, Saturday night was my sister’s birthday party, and Sunday Justin and I took the dog and baby for a hike (this one, if you’re in LA) with some of my mom friends and their babies and husbands. I also had a quick design meeting with my boss to go over some plans for a clients home in Hawaii (lucky them right?) and then Justin and I just hung around, read the paper, and ordered in from one of our favorite spots, Tocaya.
Claire just woke up in her crib (she lays there and just babbles and chats, it’s so cute) so I better go feed her before we head off to our Mommy & Me class. Have a good day today, see you back here on Wednesday!
