Is Orange the New Pink..?

Orange lips are here to stay, at least for another season or two. I was more than a little skeptical when this trend first emerged, but after seeing how happy the J.Crew catalog models seemed to be with their swipe of orange lipstick – I’m pretty sure we have Jenna Lyons to thank for the whole trend, actually – and seeing it worn in real life, I’m now completely on board.

I’m a little late to the game, I know, but it takes me a while to get used to new beauty ideas; during high school I had the really unfortunate idea that concealer on my lips was a good look, and since then I’ve pretty much stuck with a medium pink (Bobbi Brown’s True Pink) with a brighter red thrown in for good measure. Until now! I’ve found that orange shades are surprisingly easy to pull off and complement virtually every skin tone. The key, like with all vibrant lipstick hues is to tone down the rest of your makeup. The shade I’m most loving is Bobbi Brown’s Sweet Nectar, and I’m drawn to the NARS pencil above though I don’t think I’d be able to pull off such a statement. What are your thoughts on orange lips? Pretty? Repulsive? Discuss!
