Last summer we visited Madrid en route to a family wedding in the south of Spain. I have been to Spain a handful of times now, but this was my first visit to Madrid. I loved it. I found it such a lovely, walkable, friendly city, with great museums and restaurants, wonderful people watching, and some really great parks and outdoor spaces. The main park (wktk) was enormous, and we spent quite a few mornings just wandering around. We rented rowboats and got ice cream, played in one of the many little playgrounds dotted throughout, and basically just hung out. One of my favorite things that we did while visiting was to see the Sorolla museum. I am a big fan of impressionist art but only just recently learned about Sorolla, who was a prolific Spanish impressionist painter. The museum is his home in the center of Madrid, and was a really magical place to visit. There is a gorgeous courtyard, and the home is just filled with his pantings…
